Open arms as if to say “love me”

I noticed Eric, sitting alone on a public bench of Philadelphia. Its posture, at ease, comfortable, intrigues me and perceive from his body language a desire of connection.

How to approach, engage a conversation? I would turn around several times in the park, a knot in my stomach fearing of being rejected at my approach. Its bravery of Being inspires me and decide me to ask him if I could sit down just next to him. I wait silently.

I do not remember exactly what were our first words but without asking any questions, Eric begins to confide, explaining me that his ex-girlfriend cut his nose. His condition prevents him from being able to speak clearly, I’m unable to grasp what he says. He gets irritated, frustrated to not be understood. I am also. Then, I promise to write to him and to send him the pictures I have taken.

He invites me to McDonalds to drink an orange juice. People look at us, certainly surprised to see like a fairy tale take life in front of their eyes. We do not pay much attention to them, enjoying the mystery of that ephemeral exchange. Eric is very shy by my side, he gradually relaxes, and we laugh.

Eric, thank you for the beauty and authenticity of your presence.
