WHY I STARTED TO MAKE PORTRAITS OF STRANGERS?
When I stared to travel, in Europe, Asia, Africa or America, I was always surprise to notice my ability to quickly connect with all sorts of people, without even sometime be able to speak the same language. People so much seem to understand and appreciate me. I couldn’t understand that a stranger with who I would spend only few minutes, could seem to know me or understand me better than my own relatives.
So, I started to photographs those people, write about our encounter and our moment shared; like if I was creating my extended family album, searching for my relatives all over the world.
My main motivation was to hope that one day my parents and brothers would come across those stories and discover the young woman I had become.
Until recently, I never gave them the chance to see any of my work. At first, I don’t think it was a conscious decision. But once my self-confidence built through the eyes of those strangers, not showing my work had become an act of rebellious driven by the fear to be judge, miss understood and not loved as much as others could love me, by my own family.
Slowly photography & writing are becoming my way of expression. It takes time to discover our true way of communication. But once we find our voice, it’s without any hesitation that we have to share it, starting with our own family, doesn’t matter how long it will take before that entente settles down.
The Wander Woman
J’abandonne tout pour dessiner sur la carte de France, en 80 jours un coeur, au volant de mon van aménagé,
tout en photographiant et en partageant les histoires des gens que je rencontre.
Qui m’aime me suive!
